I’m Jamie Gallagher and my passion is training people of all fitness levels to reach their full potential. While serving in the United States Marine Corps, I learned that CrossFit is the path to strength, endurance, and well-being. My goal is to provide life-long fitness to my athletes to enable them to do enjoy the activities they love to do, throughout their lifetimes.
While in the Marine Corps, I used CrossFit training for both Marines and civilians. While stationed in Okinawa, I commanded a platoon of Marines. After training them using the CrossFit methodology for three months, each Marine’s physical fitness test score improved by about 50%. Injuries declined even with the higher intensity training plan.
At my next duty station, I volunteered to start and teach a CrossFit class to both civilians and Marines. The class had highly trained Marines, civilian executives and clerks who wanted to shed a few pounds. The workouts were designed to scale for each athlete’s fitness capacity, to meet each athlete where he or she was. All class members did the same exercises – just with different weight, or greater or fewer rounds of exercises to complete. I made individual modifications for each athlete, as needed, to work with mobility concerns due to prior injury or lifestyle. The athletes elevated their exercise capacity through all measurable levels of fitness and commented on a better quality of life.
Now that I am a civilian myself, I am bringing my experience and best practices to you. Hope to see you at Trident CrossFit!
Whats your biggest contribution as a coach?
My strength and biggest contribution to Trident is I connect with every athlete regardless of ability level. I know what it is like to be last (any heavy lift day!) or first (any body weight metcon). Regardless of where you are on the CrossFit continuum, I have been there. Empathy is a coach’s strongest asset. Without it, you lose credibility.
Favorite movement or WOD?
My favorite WOD is Helen. Most say Fran hooked them on CrossFit. Helen hooked me.
Least favorite movement or WOD?
I despise double unders. There is no muscling my way through them!
What do you like to do outside of CrossFit?
I like to hang out with my wife, Erin, and frequent the Dairy Godmother for their excellent Brownie Sundae!
Finish with a joke.
I don’t have any jokes appropriate for a website, so I will end with a favorite quote:
