A lifelong athlete, Karen began cross fitting for sport in 2007. She was quickly hooked on the constantly varied, intense nature of the workouts and the environment of supportive competition. The more time she spent with CrossFit the healthier her lifestyle became – physically, mentally and emotionally. Intending to share her love of CrossFit and help others to achieve the healthy lifestyle she aspires to maintain, Karen returned to her coaching roots that originated years ago in youth gymnastics and joined the Trident CrossFit team.

Providing athletes the direction and the support to assist them in accomplishing things well beyond their perceived capability is the absolute best thing about coaching.  Playing a key role in shaping children’s perspectives of exercise, nutrition, and developing their confidence through our kids program – it’s priceless.  And then there’s that extra plus of being able to call your hobby your job…

What’s your favorite workout?

I’m a sucker for all the original Crossfit “girls” workouts – good, clean basics.  Fran is the one that gets me fired up like none other, there’s something about laying it all out there, pushing yourself to the absolute limit.  I don’t get that feeling from any other workout.  Other favorites – really any workout that deserves the description “met con”…

Being a mommy to my two little ones and two pups, working to raise money for the Gladney Center for Adoption, and figuring out how I can program the next butt buster of a WOD….

Advice for someone starting or wanting to start CrossFit

Check your ego and your intimidation at the door.  No one else is looking at and judging what you’re doing – every person in class is focusing on his or her own workout.  You’re not in the gym for anyone else but yourself, strive for your personal best.  Do it with integrity and you will see results.
